(Toronto, Ontario) – Badminton Ontario is pleased to announce that three summer students will be working with the organization this summer. They will be helping with the planning of the 2018 World Junior Badminton Championships to be held in November 2018 at the Markham Pan Am Centre.

Marty Deacon, the chair of the Local Organizing Committee is, “thrilled that the 2018 World Junior Badminton Championship Leadership Planning team will have the support of 3 Canada Summer Works leaders. They are each outstanding and will do important and timely work while improving their capacity in the areas of: marketing, communications and administration. We are very thankful for government support for this important initiative”.
The three students are:
Arun is completing a master’s degree at York University and will be continuing his experience working at global sporting events (2015 Pan American Games, 2017 Invictus Games and 2018 Winter Olympics). Arun is interested in the operations and planning of sporting events.
Dan-Lee is a retired athletics athlete whom now focuses his time on the development of grassroots sports. Dan-Lee has over 10 years experience in sport event hosting; and was the convener of Cross Country Running and Track and Field for the 2017 edition of the North American Indigenous Games. Currently Dan-Lee is a multisport coach with basketball and athletics.
Jesse, a native of the DR Congo and Ottawa, and is admittedly a self-professed sports addict. Currently completing a degree in Sport Management at Brock University and is interested in combining his passion for athletics with a desire to be of service to athletes at all levels. When Jesse is not playing, watching or reading about athletics, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, taking in live music and finding new sights and sounds to explore.
About the 2018 World Junior Badminton Championships:
The Li-Ning BWF 2018 World Junior Championships are taking place in Markham, Ontario, Canada from November 5-18, 2018. The City of Markham, along with its partners Badminton Canada and Badminton Ontario, are excited to be welcoming 600 athletes from over 55 countries. Competition will occur at the Markham Pan Am Centre, which has been host to many international events since its opening in 2014. This will be the third time that Canada has hosted a World Badminton Championships.
The Championships will be played on 8 BWF (Badminton World Federation) approved badminton courts and 3 warm-up courts at a first class facility that offers many high performance sport amenities. There will be at least 4 off-site training locations close by -that will be used for training throughout the tournament. The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has been preparing for this event since May 2017.
