Draw completed for the team event at the Li Ning BWF World Junior Badminton Championships 2018

(Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) – The draw ceremony for the team event at the Li Ning BWF World Junior Championships 2018, took place on Wednesday September 26, at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Headquarters in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia. The Suhandinata Cup is scheduled to be held between November 5th and 10th, 2018 at the Pan Am Centre, in Markham, Ontario, Canada. A detailed schedule of matches is available here.

On hand for the ceremony was Nahathai Sornprachum, BWF referee who oversaw the draw process. Li-Ning Malaysia representatives Teoh Yann Ling, Brand Development Manager, and Ivan Tham Kar Hong, E-Business Development Manager, assisted with the draw. The proceedings were hosted by BWF Chief Operating Officer Stuart Borrie.

41 countries representing all five continental federations learned their fate for the tournament. The host team, Canada is scheduled to play Malaysia, Ukraine, Poland and Sweden in Group B, while defending champions China, are scheduled to play Australia and Germany in Group A1.

The teams were placed into seven groups of five each and one group of six. The six-team group is Group A, which was further sub-divided into two groups of three teams each. Seeding for the teams was based on the World Junior rankings of 23 August 2018. The full draw is available here.

Following the group stage, the top team in each group will qualify for the quarter-finals to compete for the trophy. The remaining teams will compete for overall placings.

Marty Deacon, Chair of the Local Organizing Committee said, “we are thrilled to welcome athletes, coaches, families and officials to Markham in just over one month.  This tournament promises to be an important part of each athlete’s pathway. Today’s draw reminds us of how excited and how high the caliber of play will be”.

Len Carter, President of Li-Ning Distribution Inc. said, “the badminton community is looking forward to watching the world’s best junior badminton players converge at the Pan Am Center in Markham and Li-Ning is making all efforts along with the organizing committee to make it an event that players and fans will always remember”. LN Distribution Inc. will act as the official Li-Ning representative for the BWF World Junior Badminton Championships 2018.

The individual events will follow after the team competition, and will be held between November 12 and 18, 2018.

About the 2018 World Junior Badminton Championships:

The Li-Ning BWF World Junior Championships 2018 are taking place in Markham, Ontario, Canada from November 5-18, 2018.  The City of Markham, along with its partners Badminton Canada and Badminton Ontario, are excited to be welcoming 600 athletes from over 40 countries. Competition will occur at the Markham Pan Am Centre, which has been host to many international events since its opening in 2014. This will be the third time that Canada has hosted a World Badminton Championships (junior/senior).
